This was a very restricted urban site being located just a stones throw from Brighton Station and constrained by boundaries just a couple of metres from the building line to the east and west, and on the building line to the north and south.
The original premises comprised a Victorian school building at the front and the 60s is built concrete frame factory at the rear. When planning approval was applied for the buildings had fallen into dereliction following the demise of the previous factory use.
We obtained Planning Approval for 11 dwellings and subsequent building regulations approvals which was particularly challenging given the extremely close proximity of the site boundaries.
Seven years after completion of the works the owner of the penthouse flat commissioned us to obtain planning and building regulations approvals for an extension which utilised part of the roof terrace. Again the very tight restraints presented by the site proved a worthy test of our professional skills at various levels.
